Join Our Team
This year I have signed up to walk in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and I’m hoping you’ll walk with me. I know there are a lot of breast cancer events out there, but Making Strides speaks to me because funds raised enable the American Cancer Society to help people stay well and get well from breast cancer, find cures, and empower people to fight back today. With your help, we can save lives. If you’d like to join me at Making Strides, please visit our team page. If you won’t be in town, I hope you’ll still support our efforts by making a donation of any amount you can spare.
As a little extra inspiration, I thought you might like to know a few of the ways the funds raised through Making Strides will help the American Cancer Society save lives every day. When you walk and make donation...More people in our community will have the information and tools they need to help prevent breast cancer or find it early. More people with breast cancer will have a place to turn around the clock to help them through every step of their cancer journey – whether it’s a free ride to treatment, a place to stay, or just talking to someone who has "been there." More progress will be made toward finding breast cancer’s causes and cures. The American Cancer Society has played a role in nearly every major breast cancer breakthrough of the last century, which have led to the discovery of lifesaving breast cancer treatments like Tamoxifen and Herceptin. You will help us find more. More women – like our own mothers, daughters, sisters, and grandmothers – will have access to lifesaving mammograms and treatment they need. Each of us has our own reasons for caring about the fight against breast cancer … whatever your reasons, I hope you’ll choose to make a difference by signing up to walk with me or by making a donation online. I’m so grateful to have great people like you in my life who care about helping fight breast cancer!
WOW!!!!!!!!
I don't know about you but I'm still trying to come down off of the high from this weekend's HeartSpa experience. This was my favorite picture of the day. I loved how the members of our Women's Ministry team came together and prayed at the end of our workshop session. Ladies you worked your butts off serving the women of WABC, pampering them by washing of feet (I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the picture of you all on the floor on your knees ministering to their every need), waiting on them hand and foot! Some of these women have never experienced anything like this before. Thanks so much for blessing them. It was so neat seeing grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters and aunts all being refreshed in Jesus. That day I witnessed the women of WABC being the hands and feet of Jesus. It was awesome!
Congratulations Sis. Sarah, WABC Women of the Year! Thank you for being an inspiration to us all and for being such a humble servant for the Lord.
Thank you to all of my friends and family who came into help. I love you all so much. Special thanks goes out to my girlfriend Rev. Lee. When Pam threw off her shoes I knew it was on! Ladies you know what to do now.....Run and Tell That!

Hope Starts with Us!
WABC women please join us in a very special cause. Today, there is more hope than ever for people facing breast cancer. However, there is much work to be done to find promising new treatments, increase awareness about the importance of mammograms, help all women get access to screenings and care, and connect those impacted by the disease with the information, day-to-day help, and emotional support they need to wage their battle against breast cancer.
I believe that hope for a world without breast cancer starts with me. That’s why I'm walking in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. Not only is this my opportunity to join my community to fight back against breast cancer, it is a way to inspire hope by raising funds and awareness to help those facing the disease and save more lives. And you can be a part of it, too. I have signed up to walk (this will be my second year. My grandmother died from breast cancer and a very special friend died a few years ago after a long battle with this illness) and hope you will join me in my effort by signing up to join my team or making a donation in support of my participation. Hope starts with us. If you are interested in joining us please sign up at our participant page located here.

God's Perfect Rose
Last night I spent time with some very special ladies (thank you ladies). As I looked around the restaurant I thought of all that God has in store for the women of WABC. I saw women from all walks of life, in various sizes, shapes and colors. Some young and others young at heart. Some of the ladies are like the open rose in the photo above...open to all of life's possibilities, while others are just beginning to travel down this road we call life (represented in the form of the rosebud). The one thing we all had in common was that we were created by God! How awesome is that? One of my favorite scriptures comes from Psalms 139:13-14 13"For you created my inmost being;you knit me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;your works are wonderful, I know that full well. " I love knowing that God knew about me even before I was formed in my mother's womb. Ladies we are not here by accident! Each one of us were created by God for a special purpose. What is your purpose? What gift has God bestowed upon you that you can use to be of service to WABC and to the community in which we live?

Girlfriends
There is nothing like the relationship you have with your girlfriend. She may be your sister, your mom, or a very special friend that you have known a really long time (you know the one that will tell you about yourself when you have done wrong, and then give you a big hug when you're broken and in tears?). One of my goals for the Women of Woodland Ave Baptist Church is that we not just be Sister's in Christ, but that we become genuine "girlfriends". That over time WABC becomes a safe place (haven) for women who are hurting, who are growing in their faith, and who want to develop a closer relationship with God.
Over the coming year we plan to hold activities that will strengthen us as a body of women. Our "Girl's Night Out Events" will include fun activities, bible study's geared specifically for woman, and events that will take us out into the community in which we live so that we may reach out to woman just like you and I (and even those who may appear different, but in fact probably have more in common with us then even we are willing to admit).
At this moment plans are in the works for our "Annual Woman's Day Weekend Experience" scheduled for Saturday May 23rd and Sunday May 24th. There will be a special event for our young girls that will be held on Friday May 22nd. The Theme for this event is "Healing Hearts". On that Saturday the women of WABC will attend a "Heart Spa" Workshop. Start making plans now to attend and be sure to invite a friend (a girlfriend). Let's just say you need to prepare yourself for a weekend of refreshment and renewal.
We are also checking into a trip to Washington DC for the "Woman of Faith" Conference that will be held July 31st - August 1st. More details on these events and the cost involved will be coming soon.
I am excited about where the Lord is leading the women of WABC. So get ready for the journey!

Women just L-O-V-E!
February is the month of "Love". And since this is a blog for women, I thought we would discuss women (go figure). I consider myself a strong advocate for women. I have a heart for women's issues. Their pains, their concerns, their interest. In just the last few months I have developed a deep love for the women at WABC. I feel it's important that women connect, share, get along and love each other no matter what. My hope for the women of WABC is that this year (and many years to come) we will create a strong bond among the women who enter into the door's of WABC. WABC should be a Safe Haven for women from all walks of life. Let's continue to share in one another hopes, dreams, celebrations, sorrows, tragedy's and triumphs.
Several women that I know posted this video on their websites and I wanted to take the time and share it with you. We as women have so much to celebrate. It's past time that we ladies stop the hating (life is too short)! We are not just role models for our daughter's, but also for every women we come into contact with (regardless of age, race, size or shape).
God created each of us for a special purpose and plan which did not include tearing one another down. Let's make a commitment in 2009 to be more like Christ (the women God has called us to be). Love one another, care for one another, nurture one another, share good godly wisdom with the young ones that will come up behind you. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 1st Corinthians 13:4
Now don't get me wrong, there have been many times when I have not been that compassionate, loving, caring women that God has called me to be (God is still working on me). I have two beautiful daughters that I love more then life itself, and my hope and dream for them is that one day they will leave behind a legacy of love. I remember every day that they are watching me. They see what I do right and when I do wrong. Ask yourself who is watching you? What lesson are they learning from your actions, or lack there of? But more important then that, is the fact that God is watching me. He not only see's what is on the outside, but he knows my true heart (what's on the inside). It's time to turn the table's upside down ladies.....let's all just LOVE!

One Year Bible Journey
Speaking of journey's (lol). I invite you to join me on a one year bible journey. I thought I would share a year long project my friend Monique introduced me to. Its called the One Year Bible Journey. Basically you are given a group of scriptures to read each day. Mo warns you that you may start out good and fall down, but the important thing is that you get back up (no matter where you are at). This works good for me because I always have good intentions but sometimes I fall short. No problem there, my kids grew up hearing me say if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again! So come join the journey (we promise not to judge you, especially if you don't judge us...lol). I will post the link each month so you will be able to keep up. You can see January's scriptures here: January Scriptures
Welcome
